In a significant stride towards enhancing convenience for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) customers, ICICI Bank, the second-largest private sector lender in India, has introduced a groundbreaking feature. Now, NRIs can seamlessly execute UPI payments to India using their overseas mobile numbers, eliminating the need for an Indian mobile number.

Empowering NRIs with International UPI Payments:

  • ICICI Bank announced on Monday the activation of this feature, enabling NRI customers to leverage their international mobile numbers for instant UPI payments in India.
  • The service caters to NRI customers with NRE/NRO bank accounts in India, allowing them to conduct a spectrum of transactions, including utility bill payments, merchant transactions, and e-commerce purchases.
  • Accessible through the bank’s mobile banking app, iMobile Pay, this feature simplifies financial transactions for NRIs, eliminating the inconvenience of maintaining an Indian mobile number solely for UPI payments.

Streamlining Transactions Across Borders:

  • Previously, NRIs were required to link an Indian mobile number to their bank accounts to execute UPI payments. However, with ICICI Bank’s latest initiative, this barrier has been eradicated, offering unmatched convenience to its global customer base.
  • Leveraging the National Payments Corporation network, this service spans across 10 countries, encompassing major NRI hubs such as the US, the UAE, the UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

  • Utilizing this service is remarkably straightforward. NRI customers can effortlessly scan any Indian QR code, initiate transfers to a UPI ID, or transfer funds to an Indian mobile number or bank account.
