On June 27, the Indian benchmark was trading higher after finishing flat the day before. The Sensex was up 104.32 points, or 0.17 percent, at 63,074.32, while the Nifty was up 27.60 points, or 0.15 percent, at 18,718.80 at 11 a.m.
Bharti Airtel, Apollo Hospitals, HDFC Life, BPCL, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers on the Nifty, while Cipla, UPL, Titan Company, IndusInd Bank, and Sun Pharma were among the top losers.
All sectors indexes were trading in the green, with the real estate index up 1%. The BSE midcap and smallcap indexes both gained 0.5 percent.
All existing Nifty and Nifty Bank contracts will expire on Wednesday rather than Thursday, while Nifty Midcap derivative contracts will expire on Wednesday as normal. Contracts for new series will be awarded starting this Friday.
The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed on June 29 (Thursday) for Eid al-Adha (the feast of sacrifice), also known as Bakrid. Previously, the holiday was set for June 28 (Wednesday). Wholesale commodities markets, including metals and bullion, will be closed as well. There will be no trading in the FX or commodities futures markets.
